Passport and Visa A valid passport and visa for visiting China are required for all participants, except those from Japan and Singapore if they stay for less than 15 days. Upon receiving your Registration Form, the secretariat will send you an official invitation letter by email or by mail with which you can apply for an entry visa at the Chinese Embassy or the nearest consulate general. On the other hand, you can ask your travel agent to arrange a tourist visa for you. Weather The monthly average high temperature in May is 23.2º Celsius. The average low temperature is about 15.3º C. The precipitation in the month is about 122.9 mm. Electricity The electric current used in China is 220V 50Hz. The hotels can provide 220V and 110V (shavers only) power outlets. Please note that plug adapters may be necessary. Currency and Banking RMB (Chinese yuan) is the only currency used in China. Money exchanges by cash or traveler's checks can be made at the branches of the Bank of China at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, hotels and tourist stores. Banks usually open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. everyday of the week (including Saturdays and Sundays). Currency exchange services are available for the following foreign currencies: US Dollar, British Pound Sterling, Euro, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Swiss Franc, Danish Krone, Norwegian Krone, Swedish Krone, Singapore Dollar, Malaysian Ringgit, and Macao Pataca. Smaller money exchange outlets may not accept all of these currencies. Credit cards such as American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Master Card and Visa may be used for payments at hotels and tourist stores. When visitors leave China, they can change the remaining amount of RMB back into foreign cash at the airport prior to their departure from China. But if they wish to do so, they have to show foreign currency conversion receipts. The exchange rate in mid 2007 is USD 1 = CNY 7.5. Shopping Stores open at 8:30 or 9:00 and close at 20:30 or 21:00, every day of the week. Shanghai is a shopper's dream place, where the streets are thickly strewn with department stores, shopping centers, age-old stores, specialty stores, and super markets. Virtually all the famous Chinese and foreign brands and the latest fashion can be found here. Souvenir stores are concentrated in Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, Sichuan Road North, Yuyuan Bazaar, and Xujiahui. A special shopping excursion from Yuyuan Bazaar to Nanjing Road and then to Zhangyang Road of Pudong brings visitors on a tour of discovery of the city's commodities and its ancient, modern and contemporary history. Arrival All international flights arrive in Shanghai at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). Most domestic flights arrive in Shanghai at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) is 13.5 km from city proper, while Pudong International Airport (PVG) is 35 km from city proper. Airport shuttles and taxi cabs are available whenever there are flights. It is 40 km from PVG to Galuxy Hotel, and the taxi fare is about CNY 100 yuan. If you do not have much luggage, the newly-opened magnetic levitated train can also take you from PVG to Longyang Station of Metro Line 2 at 75 yuan (USD 9.3) and then you can take Metro Line 2 to Zhongshan Park Station (the west end terminal). From Zhongshan Park, you can then take a taxi to the hotel.
