ICSG GENERAL INFORMATIONConference VenueThe ICSG conference, including poster presentations and company exhibitions, will be held on the 1st floor of the Meeting Hall in the Beijing Friendship Hotel from Oct. 22nd to 26th. The Beijing Friendship Hotel is the largest garden-style hotel in Asia. Built in 1954, it covers an area of 335,000 square meters and provides a haven from the busy metropolis of Beijing. Its style is a blend of classic elegance with traditional Chinese architecture. The facilities are world class with 1,900 rooms to meet every requirement, as well as 26 restaurants and banquet halls, a business center and recreational facilities. The Beijing Friendship Hotel is situated in the Hi-tech Development Zone in the Haidian District of Beijing. Known as China's "Silicon Valley", this area includes many high-tech companies and research institutes, including China's prestigious Tsinghua University and Peking University. Also located nearby is the Summer Palace, China's largest imperial garden and a key cultural site in Beijing. Any place in the city is accessible within 30-50 minutes from the hotel, including Beijing Capital International Airport and downtown. Official LanguageThe official language of ICSG 2006 will be English. No simultaneous interpretation will be provided. Invitation LetterAn official letter of invitation will be sent to the participants upon request. The receipt of such a letter does not exempt the recipient from paying all registration fees and other fees. Arrival in BeijingOn Oct. 22, 2006, the Conference Secretariat will set up a special reception place at Beijing International Airport to guide you to the conference venue. InternetThe ICSG organizers will provide an internet room free of charge to participants in Room 106 on the 1st floor of the Meeting Hall. Internet access is also available in each guest room of the Friendship Hotel. The charge for internet access is: 10 yuan per hour, 50 yuan per 24 hours and 160 yuan per month. MealsThe welcome reception, conference banquet and working lunch (from Oct. 23rd-26th) are included in the registration fee. Breakfast will be provided as part of your hotel accommodation. All participants are requested to present the corresponding ticket for the working lunches, Welcome Reception and Conference Banquet. Breakfast: 7:00am-8:00am Participants staying in Grand Building (Building 1) of the Friendship Hotel will have breakfast in the Yashi restaurant [1st floor of the Grand Building (Building 1)]. Participants staying in Building 2, 3 and 4 of the Friendship Hotel will have breakfast in the Café Shop of the Friendship Palace (1st floor). Working Lunch: 12:00pm-2:00pm Working lunch will be provided for regular participants and registered accompanying guests (blue, light blue, green, yellow and orange badge holders) in the restaurant of Ju Heyuan and restaurant of Ju Fuyuan. The restaurants are located in the Friendship Palace, five minutes walk from the Meeting Hall. Social Events
SmokingPlease be advised that smoking is not permitted inside the Symposium Hall. Entertainment and RestaurantsIn the Friendship Hotel and surrounding area, shopping and dining out are very convenient. Three large department stores - Shuang An Department Store, Modern Plaza and Hua Yu Fashion Shopping Center are within easy walking distance of the hotel. There are various fast food restaurants including McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and Subway within easy walking distance of the hotel. Passport and VisaA valid passport and a visa are required for entry into China. Visas can be obtained from your local Chinese Embassy or the nearest Consulate General. An official visa invitation letter will be sent to the participants by CICCST upon receipt of the registration form. Japanese participants staying in China for not more than 15 days do not need a visa. WeatherThe optimal season to visit Beijing is Autumn. Late October in Beijing is sunny and comfortable with a little bit cold. The average daily temperature is about 12.8 °C/55 °F, with highs of around 18 °C/64.4 °F and lows of around 10 °C/50 °F. It is an ideal time for tourists to enjoy the beautiful sites of Beijing. InsuranceThe conference organizers do not accept any liability for personal accidents or loss or damage to the private property of any participants during the conference or indirectly arising from attending the conference. It is advisable that participants should take adequate travel and health insurances before leaving their own countries. ElectricityThe electricity supply in China is 220V, 50Hz. Currency ExchangeIn China, the renminbi (RMB) is the only currency used. Money exchange centers can be found at the airport, most hotels and large shopping centers. The exchange rate is about US$1 = 8.00 Chinese yuan. When exchanging money, please keep your receipt so that you can convert any remaining Chinese money back to foreign currency upon leaving China. VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB are accepted in many department stores and hotels. It may be difficult to withdraw cash with credit cards. The Bank of China and most hotels can cash travelers' checks issued by any foreign banks or financial institutions. Participants will need to show their passport and pay a 0.75 percent commission. Travelers' checks signed over to a third party cannot be cashed in China, but can be presented for collection through the Bank of China. TransportationTransportation in Beijing is convenient, with buses, taxis, light rail, underground etc. Bus: The bus ride in Beijing costs about 1 yuan-3 yuan depending on distance. Most city buses run from 5:30 am to 22:00pm. Taxi: Taxis are everywhere in the city and is the most convenient way to get around. Taxis charge 1.6 yuan per kilometer for the first 15 km, and then 2.4 yuan for every additional kilometer. Toll fees are an extra. It costs around US$ 16 to travel from the airport to downtown. Light rail: The full fare is about 3 yuan. Reconfirmation of Air TicketYou are advised to reconfirm you departing flight (both international and domestic) 72 hours in advance, especially if you are flying with Chinese airlines. Please note that these offices are not usually open on weekends.
